I have a 40GB hard drive that currently has one NTFS partition for Windows that covers all but 8 MB of the HD. i want to install Fedora Linux or Ubuntu on 10 GB of the HD. I have 21 GB of free space in the partition. Is there a free program that will let me split the NTFS partition into 1 10 GB partition for linux and leave the remaining 30 GB for windows without losing data off the windows partition?

there are some program like partinion magic, but it is better to reformat all and create the 2 partinio with the windows cd and then install linux on the other partition...

partition magic is your best bet, or you can use the partition set up software in your linux package.

However, remember to have back ups before you do anything at all.

There are many other partitioning packages other than disk druid, for linux

No partition magic will do everything you want, but you must purchase a user license for it.

If you have a Fry's Electronic's near you, within a month there will be a sale for it to be free after rebates. They always have it, they rotate all the different nortan products.
