Splitting vga or hdmi?

Hey,

I currently have a desktop with a vga and an hdmi output.
-vga
-hdmi

I want to have 2 different displays on my desktop and 1 of those mirrored on a telesion.

My television has both inputs
-vga
-hdmi

My monitors have both dvi and vga
-dvi
-vga

I need to split one of these outputs and I'm wondering which would be the simplest one to do. It will have to reach about 30 feet.

I do not wish nor can I add another video card.

Anyone have a solution?

Thanks!

With VGA you went from VGA to VGA, correct? No converting? Because DVI can carry both analog and digital signals, and HDMI is only digital. As long as you're going out from VGA on your computer to VGA inputs, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

If this is what you did, have you tested and confirmed it works without splitting?

Yeh its no problem to go vga to vga. What I want to do is split the vga (or hdmi if its simpler) signal and display it on two monitors. The Y cable splitters dont work but I'm wondering if that powered ebay one would do the work.

Everything works without splitting, now I want to figure out the best way to split one.

Have you tried connecting the splitter and going to one display to confirm the splitter works? I'm just sticking with this because I recall back in a class they were just beginning to use projectors. They had a VGA Y-cable coming from the computer then connected to their monitor, then this LOOOONG cable going across the floor to the projector. It all worked just fine.

Now I know there are limitations to how long the cable should be, and how you should use a duplicator for multiple displays, but I still feel as if it should work...

Well it worked but not well. It worked with just one connection but once you put the second one on the quality would drop on both. You could still see fine but it wasn't fantastic and I need good quality for the tv.

The HDMI splitter is tempting but I'v heard bad reviews about it not working. Anyone actually try it?

Hmm... I guess you are pushing the limits of VGA a bit too far. I suppose you will need an amplifier of some sort within the line.

What happens for the resolution? The monitor and the tv will probably have different resolutions. Should I just find a good middle for the two?

Do you think the quality will be decent for watching movies on a 32inch?

Thanks for the replies!
