Spotify 'can't play the current song' or 'not responding'

Hi there,

I sound test headphone amps for an audio company, which in my work entails constantly plugging and unplugging the usb in and out of my laptop (which uses windows 10). After a few times of unplugging and plugging back in the usb, the Spotify app (my main music source) brings up the message 'cant play the current song'; also, the message 'the Spotify application is not responding' after I close Spotify and try to reopen it.
The app generally works after I reboot my computer, but you can imagine how time consuming constantly restarting my computer may be for someone who tests a large amount of amps at one time. While certain products I use do have the ability to cause the problem due to a faulty USB card, I don't understand why Spotify won't even open after closing and reopening the app. Anyone care to take a whack at this riddle?
