Spyware Problem

I have a major problem with a computer that is running Windows 2000. When I try to get on the internet and into certain sites a pop-up window comes on that states I have to install Active X in order to view the page. I tried to install Active X but the computer won't let me for some reason. I can't even update form Microsoft. I then went into IE>Tools>Internet Options> and noticed that the Home Page address was about:// and nothing else. I have tried everyuthing I can to redirect the Homepage to MSN but it won't let me. Any ideas?

you could do a spyware can (spybot/spysweeper/xoftspy) then do a HijackThis log and analyze it here http://www.hijackthis.de/ see for your self what need to be removed if there is any. if you are not sure post a log here.

about:// (about.blank) usually windows default page. you could re-type msn address there see if its stay as your home page.

Thanks

Thanks for the tips about HIjackthis, I'll try that!

I've already tried to delete cookies, history, and files, then tried to type in www.msn.com but to no avail. I've also rebooted several times after attempting this, but it still did not work. Any other reason why I can't open up the Microsoft Update page or install Active X?

Post your Hijackthis log here, don't remove anything based on that on-line scanner.

u know i always use-online scanner to remove most of the stuff, but of course i know what i am removing. is it not reliable?

It can be useful for telling you what's legit, but I've seen it flag legit progs as nasty, even anti-virus progs! Best not to recommend it to anyone. :)
