spyware

Ad-aware, spyobt S&D, windows defender, Etrust pest patrol. Ad aware and S&D are probably the best

Glad you saw your system cleaned. Sometimes you have to run several to find the one for this and another program finds something else. Another one to add to the list is Webroot's Spy Sweeper. That's a retail item that will often catch things when using just the shareware version.

does anyone ever have sucess with Defender. I've used it for a while and it has never found anything while S&D and AVG spyware seem to find something every day. I think defender is trash.

i use Spybot S&D, SpyBlaster 3.5, Ewido Anti-Spyware..

Ewidow was bought out by Grisoft. The latest version is now called AVG Anti-Spyware Free found at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-spyware-free

windows defender, its windows free spyware program

The full version not the previous beta releases is finally out. It was added to the list of programs here. It doesn't do anything for data miners and popup ads however. :(

i know ive got the newest version and i am still not impressed

Don't worry! I was never fully impressed with the beta versions either. I can't count more then just a few times when it did anything more then be an extra icon on the desktop. But...?

yeahh, i been known that Ewido and AVG combined, but i didnt kno that Avg made the anti-spyware program until i installed it on my friends computer tonight..

It removes a larger number of the usual data miners then found with AdAware I've nioticed. But AdAware will still find a few others after the AVG version has been run. You just have to look at it like an Ewido 5.0 instead of the previous 4.0 version.

Lately I wanted to give the trial version of Trend Micro's PC-cillin a run. Even though it wasn't the full version with all of the featurs available it combines anti-virus-spyware-adware-phising filter along with a personal firewall and the ability to block access to certain "suspect" sites for various reasons.

The firewall was active prompting on just about everything. It found trojans that everything else seemed to have missed? maybe? But it also had a few rather large drawbacks like bumping you offline forcing you to reboot the system again and after a period of time again. I give that a 50/50 rating for use only when you have to get a system cleaned. It was too resource grabbing like Norton and some others.

PC-cillin found trojans that nothing else could apparently. But Webroot's Spy Sweeper did the same with their trial version. AVG 7.5 is back on along with the new AVG Anti-Spyware Free(= Ewido 5.0), AdAware, and InstallSpy. Windows Defender is currently just taking up space and not doing anything.
