SSD + HDD Windows 7 boot times

I've got a Crucial M4 SSD and a WD Caviar Green 2TB HDD. Windows 7 boots quickly on the SSD but it boots even faster (around 5-10 seconds faster) if I unplug the 2TB HDD. Why is this does anybody know? Could it be because they are both plugged into the same controller and the HDD is somehow bottlenecking speed? (Marvell 6GB/s) I haven't tried using the HDD on the other (Intel) controller by the way.

My guess is the operating system is verifying the hard drive in the start up cycle. Obviously the hard drive reads at slower speeds so it takes longer.

(In a side note you can get your name changed and keep the number of posts you have with the help of a site Administrator. Vista is a not good operating system as you know.)

:/ Would plugging the HDD into a different controller help at all or not? I suspect not if the OS is having to verify it?

:D Nah I like my name and it gets all confusing when people change their names.

You must surely have more than 2048 Megs of RAM these days? ;) Assuming that's why your name is 2048Megabytes. :D

I get the same thing with a 2tb external drive plugged in. I think, as he said, it's just the BIOS detecting the drive then the OS verifying it. I also get faster boot times without an optical drive.
