SSD help

Hello, I just bought a new Samsung SSD EVO 850 250gb, connected in with the power supply cable and the SATA cable, booted the computer and looks like it recognized the SSD. Now, when I open my computer, it looks like this: http://prntscr.com/89488b it shows that only 48mb is free and my samsung magician says that my ssd card is unallocated and there are "no volumes found on the selected drive". Anyone has a clue about this?

Thanks

You'd need to partition and format it.

You should be able to assign a partition and volume through Run->diskmgmt.msc

Alternatively, why wouldn't you consider using that as your OS drive?

The problem you have now is that your c drive is bigger than your SSD. If you can get your C drive smaller then the ssd then you can just clone it to the ssd. What kind of data is on the C drive?

Mostly programs, OS. I thought i would just insert the windows 7 disc in, shut down my pc, enter bios, run the cd rom from there, save windows 7 on ssd disk and install it (i would also install the programs I use on ssd); what do you think?

That would be your only option now since your original disk is bigger then SSD. I wouldn't put all your games on the SSD. Just the ones that you use the most and would benefit from the SSD.

If you have data that can be removed from your C: drive and saved somewhere else or if you can uninstall some programs to get the used disk space on your C: drive down low enough then you could clone the C: drive to the ssd. After cloning you could then format the hdd and use it for data storage or you could even install programs on it that aren't used as often. That will save you from needing to re-install the OS and all of your programs.

As long as you're OK with installing the OS on the ssd and then re-installing all of your programs, that will work too and is actually the recommended way to do it. Some people don't have the install disks or Product Keys so re-installing their OS an programs becomes problematic.

I understand that yes, I could probably clean some space on C disk, I just checked and i got 114gb of movies saved there. Just a question, if I wanted to move programs from C: to D:, I would have to unistall the program and install it again on the D drive, correct? Or is there a faster way to just move locations?
