Hello :)

I know that SSD are faster than HDD but do they improve gaming in anyway? say I downloaded my favourite game and installed it to my SSD, would it run better than on a HDD?

Also, why are SSD storage spaces a lot smaller than HDD? And if I buy a HDD at the moment, and install windows 7 and all my games, then I buy a SDD when I can afford one, and just clip it into my computer.

Will my games run any faster? or are they still doing the same from my HDD - as I've changed nothing only clipped a SSD and connected it to my computer too as well as the HDD being in the same place as it was, also apparently turning on computer and loadup screen is 22 seconds with SSD and 40 seconds with HDD on average.

So if I have HDD and SSD together, but I leave the HDD where it originally is, will my loadup time be 22 seconds or 40 seconds?

Sorry for all these questions, all answers will be greatly appreciated! thank you :)

They really do not help gaming much at all. And only if the games are installed to the SSD will you see a performance gain. Load times go down by an average of ~ 5% or so. Nothing to write home about.

If you just bought a SSD and installed it your games are still on the HDD so you are getting no gains at all. Just basically a large flashkey is all you have.

Thank you so much for summarising this! :) I don't think I'll bother with the SSD - I was just wondering though, would the original bootup on the computer be the same (40 secs instead of 22) or can I convert my windows 7 onto the SSD and it will load at 22 seconds? thanks! :)

If you load it onto the SSD as a fresh install then you will get the faster boot up. But seriously you have issues if you are running a 40 second boot. On a 7200 RPM dive properly set up you should be getting a 30 second boot more or less. A SSD should be able to get sub 20 second if you have SATA 3. Also take into account that some drives are faster than others, and you have to set it up right. It is possible to get sub 20 second boots on windows XP on SATA 2 with a SSD. I boot in about 16 seconds right now on SATA 2 SSD.

Thank you so much! :) I just read that the average boot up time for SSD = 22 Secs compared to HDD = 40 secs, I hope my pc i'm buying will be about 30 or less, the specs -

I have no pc at the moment, just using my brother's laptop :)

I purchased the DVD-RW, Define R3 Case and the Vengeance 8GB ram today :) about to purchase the other parts in the next 2-3 days (awaiting payments)

Purchased Windows 7 Home premium, R.A.T Gaming Mouse, Steelseries QCK Pad and Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 :) Do you think the bootup speed on this will be 30 secs?

thank you :)
