SSD speed

Okay. Looking at the box it says: Asmedia ASM1061 SYPEX40039.

Here it is. https://www.amazon.com/Crest-Port-S...3?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1335651370&sr=1-3-catcorr

Edit 2-

Ah! Reading this response I think perhaps I have PCIe 1.0.

The adaptor is compatible with PCIE 1.0 and 2.0 specifications (2.5 and 5GHz signaling, 250 and 500MB/s data rate), however the maximum data rate in the PCIE 1.0 connection will be limited at 250MB/s for a SATA III device.
Note that the (supported) SATA signaling is 1.5, 3.0 and 6.0GHz (150, 300 and 600MB/s), different from PCIE data rates. Obviously the lower of the two, in any combination, will apply

It's an X1 slot. http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-965P-DS3-rev-33#sp

Okay, thanks. That explains the speed then.
So why would my parents SATA III port be around 200 MBps then? That's not using any adapter, just the SATA connector. It's a Dell Optiplex 780.

Edit-

I guess It's SATA II. Serial ATA 300.

I doubt that Optiplex 780 had SATA III. My X58 didn't even have SATA III unless you get a very late gen gigabyte X58 board. I'm pretty sure SATA III came out way after that Optiplex did.
