i have just bought a toshiba ssd 128 gb, i can attach the sata cable from the drive and to the motherboard but how do i power it my psu doesn't have any adaptors for it?

Does your power supply have any extra molex connectors? You can buy molex to SATA power adapters, or you can buy a molex splitter if you don't have any free molex connectors either.

i have managed to get the adaptor the hard drive now shows in device manager but no in my computer i have restarted the system within device manager it state the sdd is not initialised, i am running win 8.1 so finding it difficult to navigate about.

Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management > Then click on the SSD and create a partition.

got it thanks a lot really helped there thought it would just be plug and play, if i set it to primary boot and put an os on it will it speed things up, if so by how much, thanks again.

No problem, and yes installing your OS on an SSD will definitely speed things up. With a 128GB SSD you want to be careful with how many programs and games you install, and you will want to use another hard drive to store data as 128GB isn't much by today's standards.

I have a 256GB SSD, and I only have the OS and apps installed and I only have 60GB free - All my games are installed to another HD.

I've got a 128GB SSD with Windows 8.1 and a bunch of software installed and I've got 45GB free, so you will be fine so long as you install games to another drive and keep documents and other files on another drive.

Which is what I was telling him to do :P
