like the title says, i've never played stalker and it looked cool and heard it was good, so got it and it runs like a dream even on my pile of manure, but the prob is i got call of pripyat, and although i've gotten by withought a tut, i am at a loss on the story, other than it's in Chernobyl after the nucleur explosion (power plant wasn't it?) and now there's all the creatures mutated and you are a stalker who searches for artifacts (?, what are they) then you play the game and idk wtf happens after that other than it ends with like 5 helis crashing, and a the end, then call of pripyat is everything after that.

if anyone wants to, a steam chat (i have a mic) might work better so i can ask any q's and i might just restart as i didn't do like anything but run around and talk to a few people last night for like 30mins to an hour or so. if you want to do that i guess just send me a pm, from what i did i'm liking this game and really want to get into it more, will prob save up and grab the other 2 too, got this 1 on ebay for like 6.89, and the guy just emailed my the code for steam.

Stalker is one of my all time favorite series of games. You are gonna have to play Shadow of Chernobyl and clear sky to understand whats going on. I just finished Call of Pripyat the other day.

which is why i was asking for someone to give me the story so i could play this with a better understanding untill i can get the others, don't want to blow all my money, which is none, just that 6.89 was a beast price so i had to get it.

I can help with a little but I haven't played the first 2 for years. So im a bit out of it too.

To be honest, Call of Pripyat has the least amount of "Stalker" story in it. It is a good game but the other two deal more with the storyline and whats going on in the "Zone".

They tell you more about the wish granter and so on. Also, they explain artifacts and the different types of mutants. They also explain the other factions like the Monolith.

I don't know if you remember Strelok from the end of Pripyat, but in the first, you are supposed to kill him in the beginning but things change. Your character has lost his memory and doesn't know why he is in the zone or who he is.

A good bit of talk in Call of Pripyat is about the "Brain scorcher", this is an anomaly you have to get past in the first game to reach the center of the zone, where this wish granter anomaly is.

Basically there is a giant computer in the zone that is made up of a bunch of scientists minds that can think like a person. It makes the zone to continue its research into weaponry that controls peoples minds, and other anomalies. It uses the anomalies and mutants to protect itself.

If I remember correctly, the "Wish Granter" is sort of like the wizard in The Wizard of Oz. It looks like a giant magical being but is actually a fake hologram that brainwashes stalkers into following this computers orders.

If you remember who Strelok is from your gameplay in Call of Pripyat, you will realize who he really is. Think about what he says he has done in the past and why he is famous.

hmmm, i think i'll find the wiki or something, that gave me a big a$$ head-ache, but thanks for trying :good: how's the games multiplayer, is it pvp or co-op, will prob try that out in a min when i boot it, btw on maxed settings @ 1280x1040 i got like 4fps, so hoping 800x600 maxed with no aa or af or whatever the other is, and static light i will get good fps, i don't mind it looking crappy though, the 1280x1040 is my monitor's max res and it's a several year old 17" so i'm used to low res, hoping will get higher on my other comp with almost the actual min rec settings on stem, but mines a 9600se and a 2400+ (in my sig).

Yeah, its a very hard storyline to explain. There is a lot of things to cover throughout the three games. They aren't very optimized game engines either so you need a pretty beefy machine to run Clear Sky or Call of Pripyat.

Also, look into all the modding there is between the games. Call of Pripyat wasn't too great for mods, but Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky have great mods.

did you mean that clear skies and shadow have unnoptomized engines as i can run pripyat on medium @ 1024x768 with static light at great fps as far as i can tell, i don't have a monitor though so idk what i'm actually getting. and also i've done alot of gfx driver tweaking with nvidia system tools so i can play most things, i almost can play plack ops which i've heard is a horrable port, and i can play crysis (bottomed out, but still) and i love that game, main reason i want a system is so i can almost max crysis and play that beast of a game.

Yes, The first two are not very optimized. The third runs the best but has DX11 so it eats some systems alive if you try to max it.

My two 6950's at 1920x1080 run Call of Pripyat at 40-120 fps depending on the area. Usually I am around 70fps. Overclocked that is. This is fully maxed.

dang. but on 800x600 on maxed details and static lighting i can play fine on multiplayer, will prob lower just a smidge to be safe, and restarted and watched the vid this time and it gives some back info, too bad its timing is screwed up and the words don't match what's said.
