Stand By Program

There a program that will allow you to put your PC in a stand by like state but allow you to keep a active connection to keep downloading?

I heard from a guy at work there was some programs that did just that but he had no clue the name. Any chance was he right if so happen to have the name?

I don't see how that's possible. Aside from your network connection being active, you'd also need...well practically everything but the GPU active in order to process and store the incoming information. There may be programs around that perhaps put devices in a lower power state or something, but not an actual suspend...

I know for sure you could underclock your processor, perhaps even stop your CPU fan with the correct software. SpeedswitchXP is the first program that comes to mind that should lock your CPU at about half-speed (used it on my old Averatec and tested on my desktop)

I think I found the program he was talking about a AMD Away...either case I don't really wish to underclock was just curious if it was do-able. Since during the summer I prefer heat not being generated if possible.

Either case seems like it will be a pain to do.
