Start Menu Error

I’ve been having a really weird problem with my computer, which has been going on for at least a month. Whenever I open my Start Menu, a speech bubble comes up which reads:

Some items cannot be shown.
There is not enough room to show all the items you have added to the Start Menu.
to display them, please chose smaller menu icons, choose a smaller number of
items, or unpin some items.

Or something close to that. Problem is, I deleted practically everything from my start menu (they were just shortcuts), so I now have only 5 things under the All Programs menu. I’ve got 2 other shortcuts pinned, plus My Computer, Control Panel, Connect To,
Help and Support, Search, and Run….

So my question is: how do I stop this extremely annoying error? Is there a file I can delete that will wipe it clean off my hard drive? Is there a place to stop Windows errors? Thanks in advance for any who can help.

No, seriously though. Windows is NOT referring to the items in the All Programs menu, just the start menu. So just unpin some items, then right click on the taskbar and select properites / Start Menu tab / Customize button / then under programs select clear list and set the # of programs on start menu to like 2 or 3. This should take care of Windows crying about to many programs in the start menu. You probally should not have deleted things from your all programs menu; it could be pretty time consuming putting them back.

Good Luck

Thanks! It turns out all I needed to do was turn the number of programs down to 5... I thought that by putting it at 30, I was helping the problem.

As for my All Programs list, I made a backup just in case they weren't the problem... I may not have much computer knowledge, but I know enough to backup before any major change.
