so heres my dilemma. my computer was infected with a virus, but i removed it using MSE. a bunch of icons were missing from my desktop, and obvious things werent working correctly, so i restored my system back by like a week. there are still things that arent working on the system which i didnt think was possible after doing a restore. i want to now reinstall windows 7 on my computer. but when i have the disk in my only drive and restart the computer the screen stays black and does not go through any bios or anything. the first screen i see is the login. do you guys have any advice for me on why i dont see any bios etc?

you need to set the boot priority in your bios so that your cd drive is first. To access you hold a button when the computer first boots up. Which button depends on the company, so you're going to have to look that up.

After that's done, and your restart you should see the message
"Press any key to boot from cd.."
press a key and install!

I didnt realize I made a guide haha, but no, I dont see any words at all, my monitor may have some reason to do with it I think, it looks like it might be in some sort of sleep mode and when the login screen gets sent to it then it wakes up

i have fixed the problem where i dont see any bios screen. for some reason the dvi-hdmi cable that i was running didnt like to send a signal to the monitor earlier to wake it up. i switched to a straight vga-vga cable and on startup i see the bios menu!!! for a second there i thought i had purchased a 200 dollar monitor all for nothing...

thanks for your help on the subject guys
