Ok, I have a few days to read and re read the 101's before my parts get here but I have not seen these topics.

Bios, where does that come from, what puts that on your system is it Windows Software, Mobo?

What happens when you power up your new system and everything is installed properly. I know the ones I have always gotten from dell I just had to install windows if it wasnt already installed.

Can someone walk me through the start up with a new built system.

You should first start up your BIOS, it comes with the mobo, so no need to install it. Then, put your windows installation CD, and boot your CD drive from the BIOS, and thats really it...

Bios is held on the bios chip on the motherboard, the bios softawre controls the basic level operation of all your hardware. When you first boot up (lets say for the first time) think of bios as doing the following

1) Looking for processor........found
2) Looking for your ram.........found
2a)checking ram..............done
3) Looking for you graphics processing unit (graphics card or onboard).......found
4) Looking for drives.........found 4 drives= 1 hard drive, 1 cd drive, 1 dvd drive, 1 floppy

4a) Search all the drives to see if any are bootable
Harddrive.....no not bootable
Floppy.......no not bootable
cd........ Ah! you have a windows cd in, i can boot from that

And so your windows installation will start, once it has finished bios will then be able to boot from you harddrive as normal.

Thanks as simple as that is to you I had no clue what happens when you first boot a new system, all mine have been pre built so I was clueless.

Thanks for the detailed info.
