Starts to boot, then powers down. Any idea?

so i got some new parts to put my computer back together tonight. i assembled everything, or at least i thought i did. i got it together and go to power it up, after triple checking everything. push the button, and walla it fires right up, lights on, fans on. awesome right! nope cause then it powered right down after i let go of the button. i tried it again and the same result. so i figured it was something to do with front panel switches. so i pull all them and break out the user manual. put everything back, turned one connector around. try it again and it powers up and keeps running. for about 5 seconds that is. try again and powers up, runs for about about 45 second. was thinking it was ok, then powered down. had it plugged into a UPS so i pulled it and went to the wall to eliminate that as being a problem. same thing, power up, runs about 30 seconds then shuts off. And nothing is being displayed on my monitor either as it is running.

so am i missing something here or does it sound lie i might have soemthin plugged in backwards maybe?

pulled 2 sticks of ram out, and rest the processor and its up and running now. sounds smooth and no beeps of any sort. but still nothing on the display

Check your power cables again. What did you all change? From just reading what you put mabey your psu isnt handleing the new set up? OR you have a short somewhere

Do your new parts suck up more energy then the old ones? It would be easier if you told up what parts your replaced and what you replaced them with.

My best bet would be the psu considering i dont know if you stuck in more energy consuming parts. IF your energy consumption with the new parts is about equal to your old ones, i would go with what the above poser said and check your connections...

new mobo, PSU, and 2 sticks of ram.

they shouldnt use more energy. the ram is the same since i pulled 2 sticks out. the mobo is a power/energy saver board, and PSU is a 650w vs my 850w i had in there.

had a thermaltake 850w PSU, replaced with rosewill 650w

had ECS mobo replaced with gigabyte mobo

just added more ram, didnt replace any.

this is a desktop unit not a laptop. ive tried every stick (i have 4 2gb sticks) in each of the 4 slots with different combos and nothing.

it is runnign right now on my desk at work. nothing on the monitor, but just idling away with all the fans running

CPU was dead, booted right up with a new one

bought a AMD Phenom II x3

Glade you got it working but I have to ask why did you replace a good thermaltake 850w PSU with a crappy rosewill 650w PSU that just doesn't seem right.

the thermal take fried and in turn friend the CPU. the mobo had a lot of issues. i thought rosewill was a good PSU. at least thats what i had heard.

Rosewill is a newegg house brand power supply basically newegg brand kind of like a walmart brand. Rosewill is known to be one of the worse power supplies that newegg sales. I wished you would have asked us before you bought it. As long as you don't try to put a big graphics card and hook up a bunch of lights and stuff you should be fine for now.
