Static Electricity Damage

MSI board, ATI video card, Athlon AMD 2400 processer, 1.5 gb ram

I hit my home built pc with a charge of static electricity when plugging a usb plug into a usb receptacle and it shutdown. Rebooted and pc runs fine but sends no signal to monitor. Monitor, videocard, and ram all checked out ok in another pc. I have reseated the cpu. I would be thankful for advice on what I should check next?

Unplug the PSU, then remove the MoBo battery for a few seconds, making sure you push the Power button to discharge any remaining juice in the capacitors. Put the battery back in, re-plug, and try then.

THAT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!! 3 days of agony searching for the problem now fixed just that quick. Thank YOU!!

My family case (MicroFly ATX) has the same issue with the front USB ports. Before plugging anything in, try tapping the USB device on the case to ground it.

I aim to please...I don't always please, but I sure as hell aim.:P

Glad it worked out for ya! Welcome to CF :)

Edit: And on a side-note, you'd be surprised how many random little quirky problems doing that will fix. It's usually a great first-step trouble-shooting method if you ever have any issues down the road, so keep it in mind!

I had the same problem a year or so ago but no damage occurred. For a long time after that, I kept a sticky note sheet pasted over the front ports to remind me. I should resort to that...on the other hand, I think I'll remember now. Thanks for the comment!

This tip will definitely go in my little reference booklet that I keep. Thanks again!

I had look over one special shoes that I found in on IT web exhibition, that shoes prevented from static electricity damaging computer and other components. You wear it when you are fiddling around with PC and other electronic items.
It was nice but forgot all about the product name. I think it was from China, any one has any idea?
