how much does steam compress its files to?

i want to download deus ex but its about 8-9gb it says on steam.

Does steam compress this and about to how much?

i know its 8gb there or abouts but iv heard steam uncompresses the game on the fly, so technically how much do you actually end up downloading?

Not sure, it's been ages since I downloaded the game. Though when in doubt, assume the worst,

From my experience, it doesn't seem like they compress it much, if at all.
They really should do that
