I'm wondering, if you buy a game thru Steam by downloading it, and then you format your drive for example, can you re-download it to install it again?

Yes, you can download it on 10 different machines at the same time with the same account.. You can have all the steam account on, but you can only play one game with one ID at a time. Make sure you keep the email confirmation with your number saying you pruchased it.. Just incase you loose your pw, or you get it hacked...

Have fun.

its a hella lot cheaper also

not really, it only costs $30 on newegg for hl2, but $40 on steam.

And yes, i've had to do it many time, you just go to www.steampowered.com, download the steam program, login, and it shows you all of your games, you just re-download them.

Yup, steam keeps track of what games you paid for on your account, its quite nice actually...

I believe you can choose to backup your games on CD/DVD once you have them on your computer. You do this by right clicking on the game in the steam list and choose "Backup game files".

I personaly hate the idea of steam. I hate to have to verify my games online before I play them. Just think if I could not afford to pay for the internet for awhile and I have to reformate my machine then I wont be able to play Half Life 2 or other steam powered games. Also to have to redownload everytime you reformat is dumb. But if you can indeed back up your games this way then I suppose that aspect is arguable. Anyhow I've not tried backing up my game Half Life2 as I already own it on CD's but I may try backing it up this way just to see how it all works.

when i used to try backing games up, whenever i tried to reinstall them it always asked for the next disc when there were no more. So i just re-download all my games overnight.

theonly problem I see with the purchase of the games on steam... If you dont purchase the game forever.. Lets say valve doesnt come out with anymore games, CS stops selling as everyong who wants it has it. Therefor the company has basically zero income. The servers go down... and you no longer have your game. Now did you really buy the game, or just rent it?

i think if that happened then you can still play with our original cd's, but i dont think that will happen, since Hald-Life and Counter-Strike are 2 of the most popular games now, and back in the late 1990's.

Yeah you see how far they have come?... Counter strike and half life are way outdated... Great game dont get mw wrong.. but it took them this long to bring it to steam.. and this is all we get? I was dissapointed..

Yes but if you purchase them through steam then you don't have original Cd's. Or does Valve send them to you? I was under the impression you purchased it through steam and that was it. Although if you can back them up and reinstall successfully then that would work also. I've yet to try that.
