Step right up, build me a computer!

Ok, so I'm probably going to build my first gaming computer soon, preferably by Christmas. First, any recommendations? Should I wait a bit (I think I'm patient enough to wait a few more months) or just go ahead and do it now? Second, I want it to be able to play any PC game out there, Crysis etc, and not have to upgrade after like 2 months.

I'd say my budget is $1500 max, but lean toward toward $1000 if possible.

I have roughly the same budget as do yourself and I am personally waiting. November through Early 08 intel will have their new quad core 45nm cpu series (Q9450 for ~320$, well within your budget) and nvidias new "g92" series of graphics card. Im hoping for some prices to drop on later models, hopefully the 8800's.

Christmas also brings presents, asking for some of the parts as a gift never hurt ;).

Thanks, very helpful post. I guess I can wait a few more months. Do you think the 8800GTX price will drop enough to make it worth a buy?

The new g92 nVidia series is not supposed to be a replacement for the 8800 ultra in gaming performance however from what i have learned over the years is that prices to tend to drop when something newer comes out so therefor im hoping that the 8800gts does drop, even if its not significant, a drop would be nice. None the less, the 8800gtx is worth the buy as it is now if of course u have the money. All i can afford now is the 8800gts :(.
