Still having problems loading OS

Okay, still need some help here.

I fdisk the drive and tried to install Windows 98, because that is all that I have that is not part of recovery systems.

It appeared to be working until it said
"Windows setup requires 7340032 bytes available on your C: drive"

I went and looked at the partitions and this is what it reads

Partition: C: 1 Status: 1 Type: PRI DOS Volume label:
Mbytes: 29206 System: FAT32 Usage: 100%

Help! What do I do next?

Thanks!

Do you want only windows 98 installed?
If so I think you need to format the whole drive.
What I think the problem is that you partition the drive and there isn't sufficient space for windows 98.

If you want to format the whole drive. Insert the CD and boot the system and then try to go to DOS (You select boot from Cd and then exit (i think))and then type the following: c: format

it will format the hard drive and then ask you to restart the computer. Still having the cd there install Win 98.

If you want a partition drive. You need to re partition the hard drive. Go back to fdisk and then delete the partition that you want windows 98 and then try to re partition, but this time have more space.

I just want to get the system up and running!

I thought that with that many Mbytes that it would be enough to install Win 98.

Whats you hard drive size because 29206 could be either Kb or Byte. either way it isn't sufficient for windows 98. You can either format the hard drive or re configure the hard drive.

His hard drive is 30GB, which is more than enogh for windows. What you needs to do is format your drives, by starting the computer with the boot diskette, and starting the computer without CD support. Then type in "format c:" at the prompt and allow it to format your drive. That will allow Windows to install.

Okay, I made it a little further this time but still having trouble.

I deleted the partition. restarted with disk in drive and it stated that it had to format the drive. Right after it started formatting, it popped up with a message stating that setup cannot install. An error was detected while formatting your primary hard disk partition.

Any advise on what to do next?

This computer is an HP pavilion that originally had Windows ME installed. The previous owner had fdisked and tried to use the recovery disks but disk one of the recovery disks had a deep scratch and cannot be used. HP stated that they cannot send me a new set of recovery disks as ME is no longer available.

Again, any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
