Stop programs from starting automatically...

My computer genious friend made my computer start without starting all my programs automatically... but about 2 months later(yesterday) my comp crashed so I formatted my hard-drive, and restored eevrything... but nwo all the programs start automatically again... and i can't get him to come back over cuz he moved away...

I know to go to Start>Run but after that i forgot what he typed in... can anyone tell me what to type in so that I can make only MSN and Anti-virus program start?... and also what is the programs that i should select to start on their own? (if that last question made any sense, lol)

msconfig

Either that or delete the entries out of the Registry. Type in regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

stick with msconfig dont go into registry it can cause all sorts of problems if you do it wrong

ok thanks. I tried to look in their, but I felt i was in over my head, the msconfig worked great.

Does anyone know of any Tutorials on Computers? liek the tech side of things... I can fix most problems and stuff, but the more in depth tech stuff is wat I want to learn.
