Stop Windows from Automatically Installing Drivers Once a Device is Plugged In

The topic says it all. So how do you stop windows from automatically installing drivers? I have a broken hand so I have to make it short and simple.

Windows shouldn't install any drivers without some intervention from you. Plugging something in for which the pc has no drivers would prompt the 'found new hardware' wizard.

If on the other hand Windows has already got the drivers installed, and you're just plugging something in that gets recognised, the only way to get around that would be to locate the drivers and uninstall them.

Hope this helps, and sorry about the hand. :)

Might try this

Click User Configuration, click Administrative Templates, and then click System.

In the details pane, double-click Configure driver search locations, and then click Enabled.

Select or clear check boxes to prevent or allow searching of floppy disk drives, CD-ROM drives, or Windows Update.
