Stopping internet explorer pop-ups?

How do I stop all the pop ups whens browsing on internet explorer? My internet security settings are at a good level so thats not the problem. I think it has to do with the browser itself...which is probably the worse one out there.

At times I won't even have it open and it will suddenly open itself and display a pop-up.

A lot of weird behavior.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

pop up is usually caused by spyware in your computer... download some of the spyware removal tools and run them... it should help reduce the number of pop up you will get (significantly I might say)...

here is the list of spyware removal tools:
AVG Anti-Spyware: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/avg-anti-spyware-free/lng/us/tpl/v5
Spyware Terminator: http://www.spywareterminator.com/dnl/landing.aspx
Ad-Aware SE: http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html
Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Unlike Anti-Virus software, it is okay to have more than one tools installed in your computer. In fact, I would say it is adviseable to do so since certain spyware may not be detected by certain tool while other tools may have detected it.

After I run the removal tool, I usually clean up my register to remove any traces of spyware that may have been left behind. It is risky to do it manually but if you are an experienced user then that is fine. Otherwise, use registry cleaner tool. Here is the two that I have heard yielding good result:

CCleaner: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
RegCleaner: http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/archives/reg-cleaner4.3.htm

Hope this helps. :)

well, i had the same problem once, even when i was browsing in firefox, pop ups came in ie7.
well its not ie7 fualt its that you download too much porn, and when you download porn you get spyware/adware, thats a fact.

b3rt_d4ni3l,

I have AVG and spybot installed on my pc and run them regularly but I still have problems. Seems to have something to do with IE. The secuirty settings in IE don't seem to comply because no matter what level I change them to the pop-ups still come up just as often.

I almost never get this problem with firefox...not by a longshot.

Also, I get IE open itself up with a blank page saying that the page could not be found. What internet browser just opens itself up and acts like you just typed in a wrong address.

Sounds like typical Microsoft products to me.

Anyways anything else you can suggest?

Thanks.
