Strange Crashes!

Good day. Lately my custom PC has been "crashing" in a strange way. During games, and sometimes simply on the desktop, the screen will become pixelated with many different colors, then after a second or two, the screen will go black but the computer does not shut down. From this point I have to press the Reset button. When the PC boots again, there is no error message or anything. My Video Card drivers are up to date, and I recently just wiped my PC and reinstalled windows in an effort to fix the issue. Thank you for your time!

Do you have any overclocks running?
What OS are you using?

If everything is up to date from a fresh install, there *shouldn't* be any problems with video unless there is a hardware error.

What games are you trying to play as well? Does it only happen with certain games? Does it ever happen outside of games?

The card has a Factory Overclock, nothing that I've done. Drivers are up to date but the issue only really started happening after I took her apart to clean dust out. It has crashed with Lord Of The Rings Online, Bad Company 2, League of Legends and a couple others. I am running Windows XP Home Edition.

Take out your card, check there isn't any dust on the contacts or in the PCIe lane, and do the same for your memory. When I say check for dust, obviously you might not be able to see a few specs of dust, so blow them out, preferably with compressed air if you have any, or just blow on them with your mouth gently. Put the card and memory back in, and see if it happens again.

May be either some dust of something else causing bad contact, or that the card and/or memory weren't seated properly

The card was not seated properly, and I aslo cleaned dust out. I'll monitor the situation and see if it happens again. Thank you very much for your time, it is greatly appreciated!

After cleaning and seating the card again, I ran LOTRO (Lord of the rings online) again and barely a minute in, the bottom of the screen became a black rectangle and the the top was a mix of brown and black while flickering. I repated the cleaning and seating.

Would reinstalling the drivers that came with my card (On cd) help?

I've just read your sig, and assuming they are the cards you are on about, have you tried running each card individually and seeing it is happens?

If it only does it with 1 card, you know that card is probably faulty, if it does it with neither, you know that you have a problem with SLI

I am running only one card. It is an ASUS 9800 GT Ultimate. I have no SLI active. Also, after posting my last message, I was on my desktop when the screen was suddenly covered with the colorful, large pixels and then the system "locked up." So it has happened outside of games.

I have no replaced the 9800 GT with my space GeForce 7200 GS. If there are no problems with this, I will assume it is the ASUS card.
