Strange graphics issue...any ideas?

Hey everyone,
I have been having a strange issue with my new build that I have just put together last month. Everything in the build is brand new except my GPU (ATI 5770) which is the reason why I think it may be the issue. Sometimes when I play Skyrim my frame rate will be super slow and jumpy even when my GPU is not under heavy load. And also, the game will sometimes set its default graphics configuration to high and other times it will set to ultra high. After a restart it seems to have fixed itself and the game plays fine but if I leave my PC on all day and then try to play it it has the same issue. I have only tested this with skyrim, all my other games seem to play fine. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

So pretty much the game just starts to lag overtime such as when you left your PC running?

Anyone else using this computer while your afk? Could be additional processes running in the back ground after its been played with by others.

What resolution are you playing at? I ran my 5770 at 1680x1050.

Also not knowing what your system specs are other than your GPU can make a difference.

I would manually set the video settings at high and see how things go.

Nope no one else uses my computer at all. just me. And drivers are all up to date straight from the website. And here are my specs.

AMD Phenom X6 3.3 ghz
ASUS Sabertooth 990 FX Mobo
12 GB RAM
ATI 5770
Windows 7 64 Bit

He probably has 2x4gb and 2x2gb which would be 12gb...and still be in dual channel.

Anyway, I'm betting that when you leave your PC gone for awhile, it doesn't bump the core clock back up when you go to play. When the PC is idle for awhile, it drops the core clock in half (or less) to conserve energy.

Sounds like it's all driver issues. I would uninstall, then reinstall the latest catalyst drivers.

Also, you never did say what resolution you have set while gaming. A 5770 is not really a strong graphics card anymore, I'd be surprised if you get any smooth gameplay at anything over 1280x1024.

yeah 87 is right, that is how my RAM is set up right now. Ill try uninstalling the drivers and installing them again. See if that works. I know that my 5770 is a bit dated, im getting a new GPU ASAP, it has done me well the past two years though... and I play at 1366x 768..
