Strange Internet Conundrum

Hey guys,

My sister has been having some internet problems, she says that it all started after her friend upgraded to IE8 the funny thing is that Firefox doesn't work either, i even tried reinstalling it to no avail. I also tried the renew function of ipconfig and it didn't work either. The other weird thing is that i can ping websites with the command line and get reply's, any idea what the problem can be?
 
Okay well i tried a lot of possible solutions and still no internet, i'm thinking something with the NIC, i think that's something to do with networking, or the drivers?

Any ideas?
 
this will sound lame but try rebooting the modem, no? clear your cookies on firefox, no? check through the upgrade, no? viruses, no? dunk your modem and computer in liquid nitrogen, if that doesn't work were gonna have to call chuck Norris...
