Strange lines everywhere

So on my old computer there are thse very annoying lines or shadows everywhere on the screen

for example when there is a window opened dark lines extend from the corners of basically anything, like words and they run across the whole screen.

do any of you know what caused this?
is there anyway to fix this?

Could you get a screen shot of this? I actually think it's a monitor problem, but I might be wrong... But I've seen similar problems with failing monitors.

Yes i will get a screen shot as soon as possible and post it here

but its not a monitor problem because ive plugged it onto a different computer and it works just fine

No, it doesn't sound like a monitor problem at all. It definitely sounds like your video card is screwing up. It sounds like it's time for a new one.

Definitely the video card I would imagine. Do you have a spare video card you could try to see? Or another machine you can test your card in?

Since no lines show up in the screen shot and the monitor works on another PC it may actually be the the VGA port on the video card.

Hmm.. yah i have 2 other computers...

I'd recommend trying the card in the machine in question within a different machine and see if you get the lines on the other machine. If so, it's the card... A friend of mine had similar issues when his card was fried, although his were red lines and they were vertical lol.

ok i will try

and i was wondering if any infections like viruses can cause something like this? since im pretty sure that computer has multiple viruses :P

From personal experience I wouldn't have thought so, not that sort of problem anyhoo. Seems too familiar to most common hardware failure symptoms.
