Strange message

Hello all,

Every single time I log on, switch users, restart, etc. I get the same warning message.

Cannot find 'file:///C:/WINDOWS/warnhp.html'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.

I cannot get rid of this message and my wallpaper has gone missing since this message started appearing. It's now just a white background with my desktop icons over it.

Does anybody out there know what this means?!!

maybe you were using a webpage as your wallpaper. to disable this go-->right click desktop-->properties-->'Desktop' tab-->customize desktop-->'web' tab. with this you can put web contents on your desktop

This is a malware infection that was most prevalent at the beginning of this year - but for the life of me I cannot remember the name of it :(

The most common signs are as you explained, where your desktop is replaced with a white background, and then your desktop settings are disabled so you cannot change this.

I'm pretty sure most security programs should be able to remove this by now, therefore if your current security programs are up-to-date but are not removing this - then try one of either the Free Trial of Prevx1 or Superantispyware which I've used to remove this in the past.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to drop you a quick note of thanks. You guys know your stuff. Turns out what you said was 100% right Patrickv. It hasn't been a problem since I tried the desktop web thing. And Cricket57, I found a ton of crapware when I installed Superantispyware that Ad-Aware SE and McAfee never found. Thanks a lot to you both!
