Strange network problem

Hey guys,

I have been experiencing a really strange problem over the last few days. It all started when my dad complained he couldn't access ebay - it would always time out and give error 404.. So I checked a few things. Pinging my router didn't work, so I was fairly confident that this was the problem. So I bypassed the router (plugged modem straight to pc) and pinged ebay. Strange enough, it timed out, even though pinging google or any other website worked fine.

To make things even weirder, I could access ebay without any problems through firefox and IE. But pinging didn't (doesn't) work. So I hooked the router up again and pressed the reset button (it's a linksys befsr41 router) just briefly, which doesn't reset factory defaults but just refreshes the router. Now I could ping the router again just fine, but the ebay problem still persists. And when I try to access ebay through firefox it works, but it's really really slow. It takes about 40 seconds just to log in. Certain websites work fine (eg wikipedia) and others don't (eg submitting this thread is a real hassle, I had to try heaps of times before it worked)...

I checked out the manual for my router and followed all the troubleshooting tips, none of which improved my connection. In the manual there's a picture of the lights on the router, but they are all different, so this doesn't help me analyse what's going on. On my router, the 'power' light is on, 'internet' is flashing, and 'ethernet' (3 different ones - one for each pc connected) flash occasionally.

Is there anything else I can do to figure out what's wrong?
(I have static IP's set on each computer, all of them are unique. I have checked the tcp/ip settings and they're fine - just the way they've been for over a year.)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Have you tried calling your ISP to see if maybe there is an issue with the modem? I know its painful but sometimes it helps to give them a buzz.

thanks for your suggestions, I gave linksys a call, spent about an hour on the phone with them and we ended up deciding that the router must be stuffed... So yeah, got myself a new one and everything's fine now!
