Hi guys,

I have a hard disk samsung 80GB have kept stock for 5 years.
now I need it. but cmos only admit 32GB.
I dont know why.

please tell me.
thanks in advance.

You said that CMOS cannot show you more than 32 GB.Are you reffering to the BIOS?

You can try loading OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS (or however it's called in your BIOS),but I doubt that's the reason. You can also investigate your BIOS options and then adjust them properly.
But like I said...I doubt that's the reason. It's probably the file system limitaton under the Windows OS.

Is the partition on that hard disk drive in the FAT32 file system?
If yes then you cannot use more than 32 GB because Windows does not allow creating partitions bigger than 32 GB under the FAT32 file system. There ARE ways to override that of course, but not using Windows OS tools.

You have 2 ways:

1. Delete all the partitions and then create one and make it big as the entire hard disk drive and format it using the NTFS file system...

2. Convert an existing FAT32 partition in the NTFS file system and then (if neccessary) extend it to be big as the entire hard disk drive...

Syntax for converting from FAT32 to NTFS is the following:

CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS

Make sure that instead of "C:" you write the corrent drive letter of your hard disk drive.

Cheers!

I u should perform full format under NTFS format using windows xp cd. Stiil persist then u have to reset the bios to default values.

What Motherboard do you have?

I suggest checking the jumper connections on the back of the HDD as they can be set to limit the capacity.

Check the jumpers on your MOBO also.

Check the BIOS settings.
