Strange USB port problems

Hey guys, lately my mouse has randomally stopped working but usually no longer than five seconds then it starts working again. And it always makes the default windows XP sound as if im unplugging it and plugging it back in. I'm crossing my fingers this isnt a mobo problem, I have abused this mouse quite a bit due to too much counter-strike play and yanked on the corde a few times, could that be the cause?

ya yanking the cords out of the usb slot is proably the problem. doing that is not good for the mouse or the usb slot. try putting it in a differnet usb slot and see if it works. if it doesnt your going to have to get a new mouse.
 
And if you get a new mouse, you definitely should think about a cordless. :) Should be able to find a decent one for around $30.
