Strange Wi-Fi dissconnection issue

Hi, I have a samsung r530 which has had issues connecting to my wireless network for a while now. If the router is reset in any way my laptop will not re-connect automatically, if I try to connect manually it will try to connect for a second or 2 and then give up and a message comes up saying 'cannot connect to wireless network'. I have tried re-installing the wireless card several times with the latest driver, the default driver and several in betweeen. I have tried a USB wifi dongle and it has the exact same problem. The strange part is that the only way to fix it is to change the encryption method in the router settings, as soon as I do this it works fine but the problem comes back if the router is reset again.

No other computers or devices have any issues connecting to my wireless network. My router is an old Sky Sagem router. MY wireless adaptor is a Qualcomm Atheros AR9285.

I would say you have a dead wireless adapter. Try resetting your router back to defaults and see what happens. Could just be an incompatibility between router and wireless adapter.

I could swear I deleted that first sentence. However, the rest of my post still stands. Another possibility is that you have some sort of malware on your system or corrupt system files. You may want to scan for malware using malwarebytes or try reinstalling the operating system to see what happens.

I did suspect a corrupt system file but I have done a virus scan and ran the system file checker and nothing came up. I have just had an idea actually, I'll boot a live Windows XP CD and see if the problem persists then if it turns out to be a software problem I'll probably reinstall Windows unless if I can find any other solutions.
