Strange

Right...

Another thing...

I started to play BF2 and then decided to go and get something to eat... I came back up to play on it and the HDD light on the case was on, as in, no flashing, just constant.

I played for maybe 20 seconds and it crashed and I got an empty BSOD, with no text on it.

Do you think my HDD is dying?

Thanks for any help :)

I would say there is a pretty good chance that your harddrive is dying.

Games can also lock at times when sitting idle for too long if you are having some other problem. Even on a brand new drive and fresh install of Windows games are also softwares that see "glitches". When first putting Vista on the system here and working with the Creative sound software and drivers BSOD became a standard item until Creative finally came out with a Vista ready audio consloe along with drivers. But HL2 loves to crash when you go to change a weapon during game play if the EAX effects are enabled in the audio console.

Right, Well, even if it isn't on it's way out, I'll need to get a new one becuase I'll be moving to a new board... :)

I don't know if I'll be needing one, I think the newer MOBO's detect the SATA drives without the need for drivers to be loaded on, But thanks :)

Thanks for the help, I think it is my HDD that is dying.
and thanks for the link PC Eye if my HDD does die before I get the new one, I can sort it out :)

Your drive is going "D... O... A..." on you there. You'll be so glad to get into a new build and dump the problems! That probably explains the bulk of problems you have be seeing all along. The recent driver swap eased things a little but.... :( RIP!

Maybe now you see why I like "drive space" as well as extra drives here. I'm also ordering a second 500gb sata to backup the backup drive since the first 500gb sata is already more then half full. "already! !" would be the typical response from several I can imagine there. Besides video files(drive space grabbers there) and audio files for a library for different multimedia players

I also store a ton of freewares like system benchmark tools, registry cleaners, and even screen shots from games along with the maintainence and anti-malware programs. System updates as well as hardware updates accompany those. I'm still a little overdue for a few data dvd backups.
