Ok so here is the deal: I have this desktop with windows 7 and a laptop with 7 and an old dell with xp not currently running but thats another problem. I want to use the older dell to play movies on my tv, but it has a small hard drive and i dont wanna(can't) store the videos on there. I dont want to buy another external hard drive either. Im wondering what i can use to stream videos onto that computer. I have tried setting up streaming on vlc and cant figure it out.
I set up a ad-hoc network between my desktop and laptop and it sorta works. It will play and then stop and is very choppy.
Does any one have any ideas?

Does the old PC have a DVD drive? if so problem solved stick your movies on an RW disc and play em that way. Most likely reason for choppy playback is your PC is downloading so much data to a temporary store (Buffer) then reading out stopping reloading the Buffer playing it out ... probably because your network speed is too slow for real time playback.
