strong odor from optical drive

Hi, yesterday I took out the optical drive from the PC and it gave a strong odor , which is like electrical smell (I am not sure), it disappeared after a short while, I don't know what it is. The computer still working fine, is it normal or does it indicate any problems from my PC?

Thank you.

A burning smell is not good. Didn't you have an issue the other day about something smelling burnt?

I have sniffed the PSU, hardly any smell coming from it.

In fact, the PC is still ON and fine for 24 hours. I don't know where the problem is.

Check the (sata?) cables going to your drive. Your cable might have melted and that is what you are smelling.

A lot of CD/DVD drive have a little rubber o-ring, like a small rubber band that pulls the door open and close. If its wore out and loose it could make a burning smell if you opening and closing the door a lot..

it doesn't look like a rubber / plastic smell

it's difficult to describe the smell but it smells like electronics things

If you open and close the door that much you have issues.

Not really.. Over time the same thing happens with vaccums.. Sometimes it's stress related and sometimes it's usage related.. It could be the rubber degrading and then getting smelly..

In fact

The only thing I am concerned about is whether ONE chassis fan is enough for my system: intel i5 2400 (no overclock), 8GB kingston, antec 400w power, no video card, 4 internal HDDs three 2T and one 4T.

The chassis comes with two fans but I only install one

What is the most appropriate software to check the temp?

Thanks

I personally use HWMonitor but others will also probably recommend CoreTemp.
