Strong points of AMD and Intel?

Just as general question. On a 'WHOLE' what are the strong points of either CPU. I have heard that AMD is a better gaming CPU, but it more geared toward gaming, and that the Intel isn't as good for gaming, but it is better for multi-tasking. Is this correct?

Intel, due to the architecture behind it's development, tend to be slightly faster on the multi-tasking, and by the same cause, AMD tend to outperform Intel slightly when it comes to single-thread applications (such as video games). This, from all I've read so far, tends to be just about the only difference (excluding the performance rating techniques used by the two manufacturers).

Thanks. I thought I was right, I got in an arguement with some guy. He said that AMD is better for multi-tasking than Intel, which may be the same in a few cases, but not usually. Thanks again.

Photoshop is singlethreaded and it's cleanly Intel land :)

Well it depends on how you define "AMD" and how you define "Intel" if you include the entire scope of all their processors ever made EVER, he might be right. If you limit it to K8 and 5xx and newer processors, he might also be right. Naturally you cant made such broad claims and be be absolutely correct
