Hi all!

i just assembled a computer:
Gigabyte 965P-S3
Intel E6420
Winfast PX8600 GT TDH
2GB Kingston DDR2 667
250 SATA Seagate HD

i switched it on, saw a little count on memory that went up to 256mb and motherboard's splash screen up with 4 options: post screen, bios setup, xpress recovery and boot menu. But what ever i press, there are no response, i pressed all the keys on the keyboard and nothing, the system just stopped

what is happening?!?!?!
help needed

thanks

You'll probably need to set the system up before you can use it. It also sounds like you have a USB keyboard, if you don't (a.k.a PS/2) then there's a problem.

i plugged in everything correctly, i dont think i missed anything, my keyboard does use USB, but i got this jack that changes it to PS/2.
does that not work?

thanks!

Yeah, as GCR said, you need a PS/2 keyboard to access the BIOS and all of it's features.

EDIT: Do you not have a PS/2 keyboard?

Well it's odd because I can use my USB Dell keyboard in the BIOS if I clear it. If you can't use PS/2 then there's an issue that's somewhere on the motherboard. You don't have a PS/2 keyboard by any chance, I know the USB converters aren't always the best.

EDIT: Curses Danny:P

all keyboards i have are USB, they come with this little purple adaptor thing for me to plug it in the PS/2 though, does that not help at all? i need a pure PS/2 keyboard?

another thing i notice too is that you know when your computer starts, it beeps once, when it beeps, the little lights (caps, number, scroll, function locks) on my keyboard flashed once
does that mean anything?

Danny: You beat me to the bit about keyboards.

leungdarren: Sounds like it could be a motherboard issue. First remove the battery on the motherboard with the power cord unplugged first for about a minute, this will reset the BIOS. It might work but I'm unsure of this.

EDIT: The beep once is fine, that signifies no hardware issues, hopefully. And the lights flashing is normal, part of the POST is to test the keyboard sometimes. My Dell does and it complains if it can't find a keyboard.

intel p645 bios for 965p-ds3 f10
