Stupid internet won't work...

I was trying to get my Xbox connected to the internet and I plugged the ethernet cable into the router and nothing happened. I then switched around cables into different ports and finally got it to work. But now... my internet in my bedroom does not want to work for my computer. I have a wireless card and it doesn't want to work now. I did a winsockxpfix and it made the internet work for about two seconds. What the hell?

The DSL cable needs to be in the INTERNET port, and make sure your using an RJ-45 not RJ-15...

I've been able to get our internet to work with out the dsl cable in the internet port...But I guess different routers, different problems?
