Hi, I need to build a computer which will be used for music creation (mostly Reason), mixing (with Traktor) and also visual software (like Arkaos) and video editing software.
Probably some gaming too.
I'm not getting a laptop cos I can get a better desktop for same price but it'll be dragged around to outdoor parties so it needs to be pretty sturdy.
Thinking about 300GB harddrive. Probably Maxtor 300GB SATA Ultra 16 SATA150 16MB
Looking at AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Socket 939 1MB Inc Fan for CPU. Would prefer to get AMD but will go for Intel if that's better for my needs.
Motherboard I'm looking at is Asustek A8N-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 nForce 4 SLI PCI-E ATX. Although this mobo comes with onboard sound I'll be getting another soundcard so there's probably something better suited to my needs.
DVD burner needed but don't need the very best, will probably just burn a DVD every second day or so...
Need good soundcard, thinking of Sound Blaster X-Fi™ Fatal1ty or at least something that'll produce good quality sound (to be heard on big soundsystem!) with master-out and headphones-out.
Graphics card needs to be able to handle live video-mixing and fast video -editing (maybe the video-editing is the CPU's job???). Gaming isn't a prority but when I get my new computer I'll ineveitably end up playing 3D games - maybe capturing some gaming for live video-mix... At the mo I'm considering Gigabyte GeForce 6600GT 128MB PCI-E DVI-I
Need to have wireless mouse & keyboard.
No monitor needed.
Want to get two 1G RAM
Don't have a clue about cases, PSU, cooling
Living in Ireland so I think I'll be ordering from dabs.com. My budget is €1500 (approx 1000 british sterling, $1770 USD) but if there's a place in the U.S. that delivers to Ireland where I can get it cheaper let me know. Although if there's any problems it'd probably be better to order from somewhere close to home. If it's really worth it then I can go over budget.
Not a total beginner but I've kinda been ouuta the computer loop for a while so let me know what improvements/changes I can make... Suggestions much apperciated!
Thanks!
