Such thing as Intel-only RAM?

Is there such thing as Intel-only DDR2 RAM? If so, why and how??
I thought all RAM was just plug 'n play?

Also what is cat latency and timing? And what's better, higher or lower for both?

No. I've seen old SDRAM sticks with "Intel Approved" labels on them, though; it's just a marketing gimmick, though I didn't know they still do it.

As long as it's the same type, that's the way it works.

Latency means the number of clock cycles it requires to get something done (CAS, if I recall correctly, refers to the total clock cycles needed to retrieve a piece of data from the memory). Lower=better. Terms "Timings" and "Latencies" are used interchangeably and mean essentially the same thing.

There's no discrimination between AMD or Intel memory. Although, the low voltage tri-channel ddr3 memory is only for intel because that memory will only work for i7's on x58 mobos, which is intel only.
