my friend recently purchased this computer http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8649199&type=product&id=1195599475186 and wants to upgrade the video card just to have s video out. any suggestions on a cheap video card around the 50 dollar range through ebay? ive found cards their in that price range, but hope that it wont be a downgrade! fyi, we dont play games, itll just b for movies/media display on his overhead projector. and were looking at pci-e.

If you don't play games, it would be best to leave well enough alone. Onboard video is enough for the basic tasks you have in mind, even at higher resolutions. It's because movie/video frames do not need to be rendered, or created using rasterization and the graphical muscle of the GPU, unlike games, they are merely presented, written to the frame buffer and displayed on screen.

If you need S video you could get something like a 8500GT most have it, I would say it might even be better than the 6100 onboard. It doesnt take much power so I dont think you would have to worry about your P/S. Your computer only has a X8 PCIe slot but with a 8500 I dont think it would matter.

Im gonna be getting rid of my 6200PRO if he's interested... I would take $65 for it. It has S-video out and 2 DVI outputs with the VGA adapter.
