Suggestions on a C2D build......

This is probably a redundant thread but my friend wants to build a new compy. He's on a $1000 budget, give or take a couple hundred and he wants it to be a Core 2 Duo. He wants it to be a 'gaming' rig as much as possible but still be in his budget and needs a video card until DX10 and vista comes out. Also the possiblity of waiting is not an option as it is a real now or never with his parents. It has to be a complete build with the exception of the OS......

Edit: He also wants a potential SLi setup so.......

That PSU would not work well, if at all, for his setup.

You also forgot a hard drive, optical drives, keyboard, mouse, ect. But it's a good starting point.

You are griping on an Antec SM2.0 450w PSU? I would consider it to be above par...

erm, i have almost the same setup, except for the graphic cards, why would the pSU not work WELL???

Yea that falls into the obvious category....

as far as SLI, its overrated...

At least I made suggestions... :-)

He just wanted SLi as a possibilty..... The GPU though is a little overkill though, in my opinion, if he's going to replace it in a year with a DX10 compatible one.... He will be saving a lot of money though if he didn't go for the SLi mobo.... (We already made a quick build which came out to roughly $1300 before rebates....) He actually wants a specific case where a new, better PSU is a must..... (the one that comes with it sucks....)

It's good as far as case PSU's go, but it only has +12V@15A and +12V@17A, which is fine for a midrange setup, but definitely not for an SLI setup.

True...

You could do SLI with the antec neoH 500 watt easy, most people use way to powerful of PSU nowadays thinking the largest amount of watts is what is needed whereas only the minimum plus a little moving range is necessary for wattage. Quality PSU should be the concern.

I think I am done making recommendations for awhile, people want to be vague and then criticize builds...

Buy whatever you want because you will live with it or be happy with it.

Wattage isn't the biggest concern, amperage is, however it's often overlooked. I believe a single x1900XTX requires ~26A on the +12V rail.

Holy ****, I thought having 22A on my 12v rail was alot...... But for just one 1900XTX, 26A is pretty demanding.......

It's not my build though, I just want other opinions because he's basically building upon my suggestions..... (Which is pretty dangerous.....)
