I'm about 99% ready to purchase and build my new machine.

CASE Antec Three Hundred Gaming Case ATX
PSU OCZ StealthXStream Power Supply 600SXS
MOBO ASUS SKT.775 P43/ICH10 DDR2 ATX (1600FSB)
CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

GPU BFG GeForce 9800GT (512mb DDR3)
DVD LG GH22NP20 Black DVD+RW 22X8X16

With taxes the total cost is $935 CAD.

Am I missing something, or does it look good?
I would like any suggestions you might have about my build.

Thanks for all the awesome feedback,
Marcin

I would maybe go with a Q9450 and maybe a little better videocard. Do you already have a OS?

OS Linux Ubuntu 64-bit

The Q9450 is out of my price-range at this moment. I might upgrade
to it in the future - that would be no problem. I also feel any more
power in the CPU and I might as well just get the i7 and DDR3 ram.
That's the next system I'm planning to build. So right now, I'm shooting
for mid-range.

What would you recommend for video card - which better nvidia cards
are available these days?

You can use wine the windows emulator and run some games.
Not everything may work tough.

I dont think that many games are supported but I may be mistaken.

Supposidly there is a Windows emulator that will run anything for windows,
and I hear it is faster running Ubuntu with Win emulator than it is to run
Windows itself.

Worst case scenario - I will get a second DISK and install Windows Premium
64.

I'm mostly using the computer for Adobe Photoshop and website design. And
mmorpg - which are games that don't require the fastest technology anyway.
Eve Online and Silkroad Online.

Honestly look at the ati 4850 for a graphics card.

Supposidly the nvidia 9800 GTX is faster than ATI 4850. As well,
I favor nvidia over ati - historically had less problems with nvidia.
As well, BFG has lifetime warranty, and so far the 4850 cards I've
seen only have 1 year warranty.

Yeah I did, but It seems the price went up on the
GT - it's now $200 at the places that have it in stock.
And a GTX is $200 now too, so I'll just get that one.

I think the 4850 and the 9800gtx are pretty similar but I'd go for the gtx since its dual slot it has a much better cooling system that the 4850 single slit which idles at like 65-70 :O

My deciding factor was Eve-Online. They have a client for Linux operating systems. However, the requirements for their Linux clients read "ATI video cards are not supported."

I once bought an ATI graphics card, and it gave me a good deal of trouble. There was a problem with the driver, and it took me a lot of effort to get it to work properly. Whereas my experience with Nvidia has always been good.

I have always had ATI cards and have never once had a problem with them.

I'm running: anti-virus, msn, skype, 2 x browsers, eve-online, online radio.
And my cpu is using 1 to 18%. I get 150 to 240 FPS in eve-online on
the premium graphics client lmao. This - is - awesooooome. Never had a
computer like this before.
