i've got an intel 915GEV and i've got a wolfdale e5300. well, the cpu is a 64 bit processor. is there any way that my board can support it?

It just means its 64 bit ready...it depends on the OS. If its 32 bit or 64 bit then the CPU will run that mode.

So your fine as far as 32bit vs 64bit goes.

What you needed to ask was would your board support the E5300...I dunno... I can't find your board specs.

915 and 925 based motherboards do not support dual core. Also the VRM requirements will not be supported as 915 and 925 were designed near the middle/end of the P4 era and your e5300 uses the 06 specification and most P4s were 04A or 04B (the 600 series were 05A).

All modern microprocessors have a 64 bit word length. That's been true for years. All modern mainboards, obviously, handle 64 bit processors.

As mentioned above, some operating systems take advantage of the 64 bit architecture and some do not.

some..some say upgrade...and others say it wont work...when i found the board i was told that i can put dual-core in it....hell, another person with a similar board has a quad core..

for a bios update, do i have to have a processor?

Yes, the computer has to boot from the drive that has the BIOS code in it.

okay. so i imagine this board and processor won't go together. any help finding another board thats a bit newer that will support the e5300? i'm looking at spending 50-100...
