Supported CPU issue

I have an Intel D945GCCR motherboard that is running with an Intel E4400 Core2Duo CPU.

I'm wondering if a Q6600 Core2Quad CPU would work on this motherboard as well. The Intel website doesn't mention the motherboards support for quad core CPUs, but I'm wondering whether it may work anyway.

Obviously it most likely won't work as it isn't supported, but I don't see why it shouldn't so I'm wondering if it is in fact possible.

If you look at the information Intel has posted about the processors this motherboard can support they are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor
Intel Celeron Processor 400 Sequence

Core 2 Quad is not included in the list so the motherboard will not work with them.

If you are looking for a decent quality quad-core processor I would say look at a Socket AM3 motherboard. The Athlon II 640 Quad-Core is a great processor at a great price.
