svchost.exe, Microsoft at it's finest

I need to do something about the svchost.exe process on my Dell PC. It is taking over the CPU, and making that thing run slow. Is there anyway to fix this?

Thanks

Find out what is running in it and disable that service. You can do this by typing 'tasklist /svc /fi "imagename eq svchost.exe"' at the command prompt if you have XP Pro

Code:
Image Name                   PID Services
========================= ====== =============================================
svchost.exe                 1548 DcomLaunch, TermService
svchost.exe                 1628 RpcSs
svchost.exe 1872 AudioSrv, BITS, CryptSvc, Dhcp, dmserver,
                                 ERSvc, EventSystem, helpsvc, lanmanserver,
