SVCHOST.EXE problems

This thing drives me insane. Pretty much since I got my computer, at startup svchost.exe (running under the 'system' username) will use 100% of my CPU usage for a good 5+ minutes. You have no idea how annoying this is. Lately, probably for the past week or so, svchost.exe will start using 100% of my CPU usage at random times while using my computer. This gets very frustrating. Anybody have any ideas on why this is happening? I don't see why it's running so much even at startup. Guess I should mention that there are usually 7 svchost.exe processes running at any given time.

I believe svchost.EXE is automatic updates. You could try minimising the effect by setting a given time for the updates to download / install. If you're unable to set a time for the updates, perhaps try to disable them and restart (at least then you can check whether it's the updates for certain).

I don't think it's the automatic update that's doing it because I have that set to just notify me of updates. Hell, I'll turn the damn updater completely off just to be sure because I'm so annoyed by the whole thing.

From MS Support:
"The Svchost.exe file is located in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services part of the registry to construct a list of services that it must load. Multiple instances of Svchost.exe can run at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services. Therefore, separate services can run, depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started. This grouping of services permits better control and easier debugging."

I've never come across another computer that does this though. There's gotta be something wrong if it's taking 5+ minutes for this process to subside, right?

Look to see what processess are hiding under svchost.exe. Do the following and see which onje is bothering your system.

To view the list of services that are running in Svchost:
1. Click Start on the Windows taskbar, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type CMD, and then press ENTER.
3. Type Tasklist /SVC, and then press ENTER.

If you have Wondows defender installed, use it to help determine which service is running.

Open Defender
click on Tools at the top of the window. Then select “Software Explorer”. Now, under ‘Category’, select ‘Currently Running Programs’ and you will see instances of svchost.exe running with all relevant file info in the right hand pane.

Do some research if you are still worried, because I think there is a virus or two that have used this name.

This is what I got from tasklist:
