svchost.exe

So, this is my current situation. I was looking through my Windows Take Manager, under "Processes" to see what unnecessary programs were running I could stop to free up some mem. Anyway, I saw "svchost.exe" listed 3 or 4 times. I did a Google search, and discovered that it is used by Windows, and it's involoved with .DLL files. However, I also read it is a possible security threat used by hackers to enable remote access to the hijacked computer. I thought that this might be my situation, seeing as it's running quite a few times.

If anyone knows about my situation, please help me.

Thanks!

Mmm i dont really know much about it as a threat but every time i boot my pc svchost.exe uses nearly 100% of my cpu for about 15seconds. I think its an essential process and as long as you have anti-vir and a firewall it shouldnt be a risk. Most of the time i have 5-8 instances of svchost.exe running. And of those 5-8 instances there are about 100-200 processes involved with them. You shouldnt have anything to worry about :-)

Please leave them.

It is scvhost which is a trojan.

There again.

Determining whether this process is a virus or a legitimate Windows process depends on the directory location it executes or runs from in WinTasks.
