Swap Motherboard--need new copy of Win 7?

Since upgrading to Vista on one machine and 7 on another, I wonder if I'm locked down now. If I wanted to swap my motherboard for something better, am I stuck with having to repurchase Windows again?

With Windows XP this hasn't been an issue--but I'd hate to waste a perfectly good OS that I paid >$100 for because I was experimenting with a hardware configuration for my online hardware college class. My Vista class begins in 5 days--should I be gentle and leave the hardware alone?

It can be done, all you really need to do is uninstall all your drivers from device manager. I mean everything. every entry. then shut down and replace the mobo, boot up and install the new drivers, and you'll likely have to re activate windows as well.

It should not lock up, because the drivers are in use until you shut down. during shutdown the system will move/delete the drivers.
